I just recently finished this painting that I have been working on for a while now. Roy Lichtenstein's work has always been an inspiration to me, so here is my interpretation of his style. This is painted with acrylic paint on a 24x24 canvas. Enjoy!

Those who know me already know that my all time favorite movie...EVER...is Jurassic Park. I am a huge fan of dinosaurs, and so for the topic of "reverse" I thought a picture of the big bad T-Rex would be very appropriate. If only I could go reverse through time and just check these guys out...from a distance of course.

Illustration Friday - Surrender

For the topic this week, "Surrender", I decided that I wanted to depict the ancient mythological beast the Kraken. He has been portrayed many ways, but one thing that never changes is the fact that he is an extremely frightening creature. In my illustration, a diver is unlucky enough to come face to face with him. I thought this would go along with the topic of surrender because, when face to face with the Kraken, you might as well just give up, give in, and surrender!

A friend and old classmate of mine, Kaleena Porter, has started a really wonderful project/movement of hope. At http://thisiseleveneleven.com/ she has created a blog following the 1000 paper cranes that she is creating between 11/11/10 and 11/11/11 in memory of her mother who passed away from cancer. I really feel this is a wonderful project, and I felt very connected to her message of hope since her and I have both experienced the loss of a parent. I sent her a request for one of her cranes along with this story to go with why I wanted to be a part of her project:

“I understand how hard it is to think of being hopeful in the face of a great loss in your life. My father passed away when I was 10 in an airplane crash. When I think about him I can’t help to be sad at the thought of him not being around anymore, but I know he would never want me to be sad for him but to remember him with a smile. He had always said that he wanted to come back in his next life as a bird, so everytime I see one of your cranes I think of him and smile.”

Experimental Portrait

This photograph was the first project I created in the graphic design program at Penn State. We were paired up with another student in the class and asked to take a portrait of them. Everything else was completely up to us. I decided to turn my good friend Jenny Lubkin into a foreboding, goddess-like figure.
